LAUSD’s faculty and staff will use Office 365 as their email and collaboration solution for the security, reliability and flexibility that the service provides. By moving to Office 365, LAUSD gains easy access to a rich set of productivity solutions, quickly available across multiple device types. Office 365 also lessens the amount of administrative overhead the LAUSD team had formerly devoted to maintaining the District’s infrastructure, helping the District cut operational costs while increasing and facilitating productivity.
Taken from a recent press release: ‘“With Office 365, we are supported by an integrated communication and collaboration platform that helps us work more efficiently and deliver better outcomes for teachers, administrators, and students,” said Ron Chandler, Chief Information Officer, LAUSD. “It also aligns with our vision for the district to move away from relying solely on our datacenter; the cloud enables us to free up resources and devote them to other mission-critical activities.”’
Office 365 includes options for document sharing with SharePoint Online, and makes remote collaboration simple with Lync Online videoconferencing and instant messaging. Faculty and staff are able to easily access email whether in their offices or at home with Exchange Online - and across the board, LAUSD gains a unified productivity experience across the device of their choice. SADA Systems is one (1) of only 35 Microsoft National Systems Integrators holding Gold Competency, and was able to leverage unique expertise in migrating large school districts with strict privacy and security requirements to the cloud, like the Los Angeles Community College District. SADA also gained EDU-specific recognition from Microsoft, as a 2012 Microsoft Public Sector Partner of the Year - Rising Star for Education.
SADA believes that educational institutions can benefit from the way cloud technologies not only modernize communication and collaboration standards, but truly transform the way educators, staff and students connect to one another and share information. Should any sort of natural disaster ever occur, such as an earthquake or fire, the District will still be able to communicate to educators and staff remotely, without depending on the functionality of an on-premise system. Hovig Safoian, CTO of SADA Systems summarizes our sentiments: ‘“Microsoft’s unique focus on data security and privacy was key to our decision to partner with them on this deployment...We believe cloud technology can transform education, empowering faculty and students to achieve more. LAUSD is incredibly important to us because they are leading technical modernization within school districts by moving to the cloud.”’
